Dolly Tubs

Dolly tubs were barrels with wooden paddles in them, a little like large butter churns. Finely crushed bouse and water were put in them and the paddles were turned, agitating the mixture. The heavy ore settled first in the base of the tub with the lighter waste on top.

Dolly tubs can be seen at Killhope Lead Mining Museum.
