Thrislington: photograph of chapel excavations during 1973

Thrislington Chapel, lower levels

This image shows the chapel at Thrislington in an advanced state of excavation in the 1973 season. Here you are looking westward, and can see the layout of the building from its foundations: the larger room in the foreground is the nave where the congregation would have stood, or sat on a bench that ran around the perimeter.

The smaller room to the rear is the chancel, which would have held the altar and in which the priest would haver performed mass.

The ranging rod is two meters long.
