The Last Rites of Gilbert the Miner

This video clip shows Gilbert the miner being given the last rites shortly before his death in 1341. Although we can't be certain of the scene, the very badly wounded Gilbert would probably have been placed on a bier - a sort of stretcher - and placed within the nave of the chapel. He probably suffered from serious internal injuries after his fall, from which there would have been no recovery in the medieval period.
