Wark Castle: The 1545 Survey of the Garrison and Ordnance at Wark

In March 1545 the government instructed that someone should be sent to Wark and Berwick Castles in order to see ' howe and with what nombres' they were held.

In order to read the manuscript we have provided an interactive version which you can translate line by line. After viewing the manuscript interactively you can explore more of the Wark archive or reconstructions of the castle.

Alternatively, you can return to Wark Castle in the 16th century, find out about the decline of Wark Castle or return to the home page.
