Low Hauxley Archive: Cist 2 With Content Removed

The contents of the cist were removed the same day and, because the cover slab couldn't be moved without breaking, the pot and the larger bones were lifted out separately, from one end of the cist. The archaeologists were therefore unable to record the position of the remains in detail.

The floor of the cist was made up of pieces of sandstone slab laid within the cist to form a rough surface.

Compare this cist with Cist 1, see the construction pit of Cist 2 or browse the archive.
