Video Clips: Bronze Age Burial

Once upon a time, about 3500 years ago, a young man was laid to rest by his family. His body was lovingly wrapped by his mother in a shroud of wool and linen. As part of the rituals surrounding death, his body had been bent into a foetal position symbolising birth and his return to the earth.

His life had been hard, winters often left him and his family starving. No one in his family was wealthy or powerful. But it was still most important that his burial be accompanied by a pottery beaker, decorated especially for this moment, and filled with food and drink to help him on his way to the afterlife.
