Copper bowl

This deep copper bowl has been reconstructed from one found at Thrislington. Often metalwork does not survive because of ground conditions, and so such artefacts must be very carefully excavated, stored and handled. Metal plate such as this was highly valued during the medieval times, and displayed on cup-boards (hence our word cupboard). A lord would usually take it with him when he left, making this quite an unusual find.
