Thrislington Medieval Village
Thrislington was a real village in County Durham that was occupied for at least 800 years.
It gradually became a deserted Medieval village, or DMV, and today the site no longer exists, having been
destroyed by quarrying after 1974.
A rescue excavation in 1973 discovered the remains of houses, barns, a chapel and a manor house. We have used the
information from Professor Austin's excavation to make a model of what the village might have looked like in the
fourteenth century. Using the tabs above you can move between reconstructions of the site as images and video clips, as well as VRML virtual reality.
You can also examine the medieval document detailing the death of Gilbert, a miner from the village, and explore the site archive.
The reconstructions of the model are presented in a thematic tour that focuses on the CHAPEL, MANOR HOUSE, and COTTAGES. The tour
