Thrislington Manor

The lord of Thrislington owned the estate, and very likely others as well. The manor house was home to the Lord and probably a large part of his retinue, including cooks, kitchen workers, grooms and serving maids. The Bailiff probably organised the day-to-day running of the manor house.

The Bailiff or Reeve was also employed by the lord to collect rent from the villagers. Villagers frequently did not own the land they worked, but rather were tenants of the lord. Those villagers that did own their land may have also worked for the lord, in return for goods produced at the manor.

Learn more about the manor, or step inside the manor hall or the manor kitchen. Alternatively if you have a VRML plug-in you can explore the manor in virtual reality.
