Jim Slaughter's Narrative History:

Worrying about Accidents

"The worst thing about mining was the worry over accidents. Not my worry, but my wife's worry. Waiting at home, wondering when the ambulance is pulling up next. They had a fear all the time because during the last year I had quite a few accidents, minor accidents like, but enough to take you to hospital and then bring you home, you know... and the ambulance, during the last year, it was pulling up fairly regular!"
