Woodhorn Archive

The material that forms the archive of Woodhorn Colliery includes the buildings, tools, photographs and written records of the former coalmine. As well as the old colliery buildings themselves, lots of equipment and everyday items used by miners are on display at Woodhorn Colliery Museum. Many of the documents from the mine are held at the Northumberland Record Office.

Using a selection of this material we have illustrated the lives of the miners and showed how the colliery operated. You can link from the reconstructions to some of these photographs. Alternatively, you can follow the links to the archive table of contents.

Photographs: a miner's photo album, the photographs of Humphrey Spender, and a record of the buildings today.

Documents and artefacts: a selection of mining tools and equipment, colliery documents, letters, and an archaeological report.
