Woodhorn Colliery: Conveyor

The conveyor was loaded with coal by the fillers. There were conveyors at the coalface that carried coal to the Mothergate conveyor. From there it was carried back to the roadway where it was loaded into tubs and taken up to the surface.

From here you can see a photograph of a filler loading the conveyor, see a photograph of the full tubs at the surface and a still image of a filler or explore the coalface works at Mothergate

Listen to Jim Slaughter talk about the belts and hear how men used to ride on them as well.
