Yeavering: Site Archive

A number of sources have been used to help create the reconstructions of Yeavering. These have been archived here. You can click on any document to view it.

The main source used has been the excavation report Yeavering: An Anglo-Saxon British Centre of Early Northumbria written by Brian Hope-Taylor published in 1977 as DoE Archaeological Report 7 by HMSO London. This is supplemented by earlier sources such as the writings of Bede who lived between the 7th and 8th centuries AD. Some of the finds from the excavations are now in storage at the Museum of Antiquities of Newcastle upon Tyne, where the original plans and maps reproduced here are also held.

Other archival material is currently held at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, where it is being catalogued and conserved. Crown copyright material is reproduced by permission of English Heritage acting under licence from the Controller of Her Majesty's Stationery Office.

We have provided the list of main archive categories, but you can follow the link to table of contents to see full list of archive entries.
