Low Hauxley Archive: Cist 2 Cover Stone

The second cist was found when the site was being cleaned for an overall photograph, after cist 1 had been removed. It lay 0.7m to the west of the first cist, and was discovered when a sandstone fragment, that turned out to be a piece of the cover slab that had broken off, was removed to reveal a void beneath.

The cover slab was in very poor condition with stone flaking from it, and several major cracks running through it.

Browse the archive or see the contents of Cist 2.
