Stotsfield Mine

Stostfield mine, started in 1863, originally produced lead ore. From 1914 it was also producing fluorspar. The mine provided access to part of the Red vein which runs along the north side of the Rookhope valley.

The mine employed about 40 men. It was almost exhausted in 1961 but before it was closed in 1966 55,000 tons of ore were opencast from the site.
