Fluorspar

In the same veins as the lead ores there were other minerals in them. Until the beginning of the 20th century the miners used to throw away the waste minerals (or gangue) onto spoil heaps, until it was discovered that it was a useful mineral for steel making.

Fluorspar is extracted by underground mining or opencasting. It was also extracted from the old spoil heaps, which was called hillocking.
