Frasers Quarry

Fraser's Quarry operated from 1865 to 1877 by the Weardale Iron Company and produced iron ore for smelting at the blast furnaces at Tow Law. The ore was transported through the quarry by an aerial ropeway to the mineral railway running down the Rookhope Valley.

The ironstone quarries in Weardale have a typical appearance because the waster was carried from the rock face by tipping trucks on rails which produced complexes of long branching spoil tips and gave the quarries a "jelly mould" appearance.
