Thrislington: instrument key found at Manor house

Instrument Key

This inch long (2.5 cm) instrument key was found in the manor house, and would have been used to tighten the stings on a musical instrument such as a lute or fiddle.

Medieval instruments did not look too different from those of today and were used for the entertainment of the manor lord and his guests.

There is a lot that you can do here: you can see both a physical reconstruction and a virtual reconstruction of what the instrument may have looked like, or you can view reconstructions of the manor hall interior, or see and hear reenactment of medieval music.
