Thrislington: whetstone fragments

Whetstones

Whetstones such as these would have been used, usually with water, to grind knives and other blades to keep them sharp. Originally some of these whetstones were larger; these are just their fragments - each only a few centimetres long.

Move onto see some of the iron knives discovered at Thrislington, which may even have been sharpened on these stones.
