Thrislington Chapel
The chapel at Thrislington is set back from the main street, away from all the houses. It is a simple stone
building with a stone tiled roof that consisted of two rooms, the nave and chancel. No sign of mortar was
found on the outside, although the interior of the building was probably plastered.
It will have been used by the lord and his family regularly for daily prayers, although a drain pit discovered
in the chancel suggests it was also used for baptism: a soakaway drain discovered was probably for the piscina,
a holy water container set into the wall of the chancel. It is likely that the villagers, the Lord and his family,
will have walked or ridden two miles to the nearby church at Middleham for Sunday services, marriages and funerals.
From here you can see a close up of the chapel and explore its interior,
explore the VRML model,
or see a video clip.
