Chapel Interior

The chapel nave (the larger room in the foreground) was used by the congregation: it had a stone bench running around the walls, with a gap in the south wall of the nave where the door must have been. The bench was only used by the oldest and sickest worshippers; this is the origin of the saying 'the weakest go to the wall'.

The chancel, visible in the background, had a raised floor slightly higher than the nave. It was separated from the nave by a stone archway filled with a wooden screen. The screen would have had a gap or a gate in the middle of it, to allow worshippers to approach the altar.

From here you can see the altar in greater detail or explore the interior of the chapel through the VRML model.
