Loom Detail

This close-up of the reconstruction of the loom shows the fine threads making up the "warp" (the threads stretched lengthwise along the loom) and the "weft" (the threads moved across the warp by the shuttle). By introducing different colours, in both warp and weft, quite intricate patterns could be achieved - in this case threads dyed with natural dyes such as plants and roots have been used to make a plaid design.

See the reconstruction of entire loom or see part of lady's costume.
