Jim Slaughter's Narrative History:

The Night Shift

"Well, we'll kick off by.. A Night Shift. Yes, night shift was normally five o'clock til approximately one o'clock in the morning and miners used to like a couple of hours before they went to work. Now when they got up there would be a meal ready for them and their clothes, their pit work clothes, would be hanging around the fender, around the fireplace. Everything, to be warmed up ready for the miner to go to work."
