Lintzgarth Mill Chimney

The poisonous fumes from Lintzgarth smeltmill were taken up a 2.4km long flue that was carried across the river on arches and terminated at a chimney on Redburn Common used to condense the lead-rich fumes. The one and a half arches that survive today are the most visible remains of the former smeltmill.

A man would be sent up the flue to scrape off the lead deposits. These were then washed down the flue into a tank, the site of which now lies in a lay-by next to the road. Some of its wooden sides can still be seen.
