Geology: Other Ores in the North Pennines
The main minerals exploited in the Rookhope Valley were lead ore (galena), Fluorspar and various iron ores.
All of these were formed in the mineral veins and were often found together. Thus one mine might have produced
all three types of mineral. Across the North Pennines additional mineral were exploited, including barites and
zinc blend (known locally as Black Jack)
