Wark Medieval Castle: Archive

A number of sources have been used to help create the reconstructions of Wark Castle, and some of those are presented here as archive.

One important source has been historical descriptions, in the form of surveys, garrison and ordnance lists and letters from those responsible for the upkeep of the castle to the monarch and his/her advisors.

More recent information has come from a very thorough survey of the site undertaken by the Royal Commission on the Historic Monuments of England (RCHME, now part of English Heritage) and from recording work undertaken during repair and consolidation work undertaken in 1997. Copies of these surveys and reports are held in the Northumberland County Council Sites and Monuments Record.
